Customisation and enhancement of Android platform for new Vertu phone, launched February 2017.

Vertu Signature Touch
Fully revised UI for the second generation of the Signature Touch phone, launched in October 2015.

Complete re-boot of the Vertu luxury boutique app, introducing a more scalable and engaging multi-facetted browsing structure. “Showcase” homescreen with tailored browsing by category, location and date. Enhanced “details” screen to support richer content. Agile design and development process with phased feature introduction.Highly successful launch with dramatic uplift in views per user.

Vertu Signature
Transfer of Vertu’s flagship Signature handset to a Linux-based software platform.
Full re-design of Email application, Added data synchronisation with multiple accounts, Integrated Wifi hotspot and tethering functionality, Revised Security settings, New web browser and video player.

Responsible for the complete redesign of major parts of the British Airways mobile website (also integrated into the BA mobile apps for Android and iOS).

Features include Check-in, Seat selection, Flight status, Passenger details, Booking management, Executive Club account and booking with Avios points or vouchers. Design of screen flows, page layouts, visual design and markup. Worked with an off-shore development team in an agile process.

BT Cloud
UX lead for a new cross-platform cloud storage and backup service, based on a Web app with platform-specific clients for PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android.

Responsible for product concept design, competitor benchmarking and supplier UE evaluation. Negotiating design of BT-specific features and improvement of UE quality with software supplier, Wireframe and wording spec review and sign-off.
Definition of BT branding scheme and commissioning of visual assets, icons, html. Specification and interactive prototyping of installation, login and setup processes in Axure.
Commissioning Usability and Accessibility testing, conducting in-home user interviews. Functional and UE quality testing, bug tracking and resolution in Agile implementation sprints.
Commissioning Mobile UE style guide to align App and Mobile web experiences across BT.

Vodafone 360 Messaging
Responsible for specification, prototyping and QA for SMS, MMS, Chat and all text entry on the Samsung H2 handset. Also responsible for SMS, Chat, Email, Sign-In and First-run features on Vodafone 360 pre-loaded mobile client.

Vodafone Music and App Stores
Specified and prototyped common structures, behaviours, flows and controls used across several services and platforms, to improve appeal, usability and consistency of the Vodafone shopping experience. Commissioned user trials and native implementations of these features for integration directly into client development.

Vodafone 360 People Sync
Lead UE Designer, designing synchronisation clients across iPhone, Windows Mobile and RIM platforms.

Vodafone 360 Social Calendar
Lead UE Designer on aggregated calendar concept.

Responsible for UE design on O2 custom-designed feature phones.

Management of usability issues and bugs across all applications, definition of functionality, approval of UI flow revisions, verification of implementation by OEM. Commissioning of internal and external usability trials, development of UI design guidelines and commissioning of interactive UI simulations. Management of comprehensive wording review and review of user guide material, working with external copywriting agency.

Mobile phone user interface design and development consultancy, specialising in Nokia Series 60 and Series 90 devices. Acquired by Adobe. Developed proposals for alternative operating system behaviour for a leading handset manufacturer. Designed and prototyped user interface concepts for call handling, messaging and application navigation.

Responsible for generating connectivity-enabled product propositions and proof-of-concept prototypes for Philips Consumer Electronics and Philips Semiconductors.

Connected Audio
Project leader for a Wi-Fi connected portable touchscreen audio device: Design, storyboarding and formal specification, prototyping in Flash and Java for a Linux iPAQ PDA. Managed two cycles of usability evaluation. Workpackage leader, identifying and resolving usability and performance issues associated with accessing large-scale multi-media storage, distributed across a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) home network.

NFC on Mobile
Design, specification and implementation of a Java mobile-commerce NFC demo application on a Symbian smartphone.

Off-Road Navigation
Design, specification and user testing of off-road navigation functionality, menu structure, information format and graphic representation. Creation of high-fidelity, fully-functional interactive prototypes for in-car entertainment and communication features.

Off-Road controls and information
Design of innovative transmission and chassis control and status display concepts: Capture of functional requirements database through structured interviews of off-road driving experts. Creation of an interactive prototype, interfaced to live vehicle control and sensor systems in a demonstration vehicle.

Road Traffic Advisor
Leader of in-vehicle HMI design and validation activities. This EPSRC Foresight project demonstrated the delivery of targeted travel and traffic information by a network of short-range microwave beacons around the M25 and M4.

Investigation of driver reaction to distance-keeping and collision-warning systems using a full-vehicle driving simulator. TRL representative in EU project responsible for generation, development and user testing of information and warning symbols for ICC. Author of HARDIE Human Factors design guidelines for information presentation by Intelligent Cruise Control systems.

Driving simulation
Design and project management of large-scale empirical comparison of driver behaviour, proficiency and workload in UK’s most advanced driving simulator with an instrumented vehicle on a test track. Expert assessor in program of Human Factors evaluation of in-vehicle navigation and traffic information systems for Department of Transport. Project manager and lead researcher of a comparative study of roadside and in-vehicle destination information using eye-movement analysis.
